Sophrology

Attitude - Techniques

Origin of sophrology

Vector-2

Sophrology was founded by the Colombian neuropsychiatrist Dr Alfonso Caycedo (1932 – 2017). The term has its roots in ancient Greek and literally means “the study of consciousness in harmony”.

SOS: Harmony, Balance

PREN: Consciousness

LOGOS: Study, Science

It is a fusion of different approaches such as western relaxation techniques (Shultz’s Autogenic Training of Shultz; Jacobson’s Progressive Muscle Relaxation) as well as Eastern disciplines (Yoga, Tibetan Buddhism, Zen).

The philosophy underlying sophrology is based on phenomenology. It is based on principles such as non-judgment but also the integration of the body schema, objective reality, living in the present moment, adaptability and positive action.

Path - Autonomy

Is Sophrology for you?

Vector

Sophrology is a body-mind discipline that combines muscle relaxation exercises, breathing exercises and visualisation aimed at restoring balance between body and mind.

You can think of sophrology as a journey on a path. Together we will explore techniques, and tailor each session to your needs and expectations. The goal is to build your own toolkit so that you can use these techniques independently in your daily life whenever needed.
